PARISH MINISTRY
Baptism Welcome: Usually Baptisms are celebrated on the first Sunday of each month. Parents are requested to attend the 10.30 Mass on the last Sunday of the month. We like to have some of our parishioners sit with the families during Mass and invite them to stay for a cup of tea or coffee afterwards. Many parents presenting children for baptism have been away from the church for a long time, it is important that they feel welcome.
Children’s Liturgy: About every 4-6 weeks with one or two others open up the Gospel of the day with children from Prep to Grade 3. Resources provided in advance.
Choir/Music: If you enjoy singing or playing a musical instrument, this is for you - add your voice to one of our nine choirs.
Coffee maker: Take a turn every few weeks with another parishioner making coffee after mass. Some skill is required however if you are willing you can learn.
Coffee clean up: Yes, after the coffee there is a mess. This requires staying back and washing cups, saucers, cleaning tables and generally tidying up.
It can be fun and you get to meet some beaut people.
Collector: Passing the baskets sounds simple but to be done with a smile and with reverence requires a little more. Usually collectors are rostered on every two or three months a month at a time.
Eucharistic Minister: What a privilege to offer the Body and Blood of the Risen Lord to your fellow parishioners. We do have one training night for all the do’s and don’ts and answer all your “What if” questions.
Hospitality: A hallmark of being a Christian is to offer hospitality. It does make a difference how each person is greeted, how the stranger is welcomed, how information is provided and how hymn books and bulletins are handed out. A training night is required.
Proclaimer of the Word: To proclaim is not the same as reading. God’s Word is waiting to come alive in our midst. If you read well share your God-given gift with our community. Readings, pronunciation guides are provided so Proclaimer is prepared. One night for training is required.
Brochure Delivery: Each of the approximately 13,000 homes in our parish receives a Christmas and Easter brochure 10 days and three days before the feast. Our parish is divided into zones with about 500 houses in each zone. Brochures are placed in letterboxes it is our way of reaching out to everyone. Can you help?
Church Care: Unlike the church cleaners who work with a group, you can work on your own or with a friend on a day you choose. This ministry involves loving our church and doing the necessary things to keep our church looking loved and welcoming. You will be shown some of the things that need to be done.
Church Cleaning: Our church gets a lot of use and therefore needs to be cleaned. What a difference it makes when on either Friday morning or Saturday morning the carpets are vacuumed, the chairs are straightened, and things have been dusted. It is anticipated that there will be at least eight groups so one turn every two months is all that is required.
Flowers: Arranging flowers for the altar and chapels on Saturdays. The flowers are supplied.
Gardening/Watering: Our gardens are much admired but they do need to be looked after and watered. There are about three or four parishioners who come on Tuesday mornings you would be most welcome to join that happy bunch. Alternately you can be allocated a particular part of the garden to look after and come when it suits you.
Grief Hospitality: Frequently on the evening prior to a funeral there is a Rosary and associated prayers for the deceased.
Many people come to the Rosary because they are unable to come to the funeral. Can we as a Parish offer coffee, tea etc to those in grief?
Parish Office and Parish Centre cleaning: Are separate rosters both requiring a commitment to come once a month and vacuum etc either the Parish Office or the Parish Centre. You can come at a time to suit yourself; great for busy people.
Thanksgiving counting: Either on Sunday morning after the 9am mass or at 9am on Monday a group of about 5 or 6 count our Thanksgiving and loose money. Accuracy is important so if you have experience counting money, would take a turn about every two months? You will get to meet some great people.
Working Bee: We have four working bees during the year on the dates indicated. Can you come to at least one?
This would simply mean a commitment of a couple of hours once a year!
